Abstract

341,205. Differential gearing, HADFIELD, 0., 30, Westcliffe Road, Birkdale, Southport, Lancashire. Nov. 23, 1929, No. 35906. [Class 80 (ii).] An epicyclic balance or differential friction gear comprising a rotatable casing 7 carrying rollers 14 or the like in frictional engagement with coaxial differential sun wheels 1, 2 is provided with springs 33, 34 each of which abuts at one end against an end cap 28 secured to a sleeve 13 extending from the casing 7 and at the other end against a sleeve 9 extending from a differential wheel for the purpose of maintaining the sun wheels 1, 2 and the rollers 14 in engagement. The rollers 14 may be parallel, spherical or ellipsoidal or may be made up of a number of separately rotatable rings or washers. The wheels 1, 2 are secured to the shafts 3, 4 by keys 19, 20 in slots in the shafts 3, 4 and the bosses 21, 22, said keys being secured by plates 23, 24 screwed against the faces of the bosses 21, 22.
