Abstract
478,096. Differential gearing. SPELLACY, A. E. March 1, 1937, No. 6139. [Class 80 (ii)] A differential for driving vehicle part axles comprises bevel planet gears 26 which carry the load and are eccentrically supported so as to maintain a drive although one road wheel fails entirely to grip. These planets 26 mesh with and drive suns 13<1>, 13<2>, Fig. 1, on the part axles 151, 15<2> and are supported against the inner surface of a driving drum or casing 6. The drive to each planet 26 passes through a rod 19, Fig. 2, secured at both ends in the casing 6, a separate rod 19 for each planet. On each rod 19, a sleeve 22 is free to rock without sliding between distance pieces 20, 21, and each sleeve is rigid with an arm 23 having a ball end 24 engaging in an aperture 25 passing eccentrically through the corresponding planet 26.
