Abstract
335,155. Koppers, Co., (Assignees of Albright, A. R.). Oct. 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-In the acidalkaline phenate purification of light oils extracted from coal gas the phenolate solution used is that obtained by washing with alkali solution the liquid or gas used to remove phenols from the ammoniacal gas liquor. Seven per cent by volume of concentrated sulphuric acid, and a solution containng about equal parts of sodium hydroxide and sodium phenolate are specified as suitable. The phenols may be recovered by treating the used washing liquid with sodium bicarbonate or carbon dioxide. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the purification of hydrocarbon oil e.g. that recovered from coal gas, coke oven gas, or other fuel gas, by washing with a solution of a phenolate, e.g. sodium phenolate, which may or may not contain alkali hydroxide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
