Abstract

334,683. Vulcan Motor &. Engineering Co. (1906), Ltd., and Gregg, S. J. Aug. 8, 1929. Doors, cart.-The scavengers' carts provided with covers which are hinged along a part away from the edge of the body the cover is connected to an operating mechanism for positive opening and closing the operating mechanism being arranged to leave the outside edge of the opening free. As shown in Fig. 1, the cover 3 is hinged at 4 to a fixed part 5 and is connected by links 8 to arms 9 carried by shafts 10. These shafts 10 may be operated by hand or pedal levers 16 through links 13, 15, bell-cranks 14 and arm 12. In a modification, the cover may be in two parts 18. 19 hinged together at 20 and is connected by links 25 to arms 24. These arms 24 at each side are connected to co-axial shafts comprising sleeves 21 carried by a rod 22, the sleeves 21 being operated separately by arms 27, links 28, 31, bell-crank 29 and hand or pedal lever 32. The cover may be biassed so that the part 19 rests on the body when open and to move into the closing position when the operating means is released. The covers may be sub-divided longitudinally and operated simultaneously or separately.
