Abstract

875,587. Valves. GLOSTER AIRCRAFT CO. Ltd. Dec. 12, 1958 [Dec. 14, 1957], No. 38970/57. Class 135. A number of outlet valves on a liquid tanker vehicle are operable individually by separate control means positioned on top of the tanker, and an actuating member operable from a remote position on the vehicle and connected with these control means, enables any of the valves left in the open position to be closed in a single operating movement of this member. A number of outlet valves 1 of a compartmented road fuel tanker vehicle comprise closure members 2 connected to operating rods 4 which are spring urged in the closing direction and extend out of tubular guides 5 at the top of the tanker where each rod carries a local operating hand lever 8 pivoted thereto. One end of lever 8 carries rollers 10 which run on fixed tracks 11 so that by raising this lever past an upright position (Fig. 3) the closure member 2 is lifted to open position and retained therein. The mechanism for closing from the remote position any of the valves left open, comprises a block 16 for each valve, having a slot 17 in which an extension of the axle of the rollers 10 runs. The blocks 16 are connected together by rods 19 provided with one or more return springs 22 and linked through a bell-crank lever 21 and a pull rod or wire 24 to a remote handle 25 positioned e.g. at the rear of the vehicle and accessible from ground level. On release of the handle 25, the blocks 16 return to the position of Fig. 2, leaving the levers 8 free for local operation as before. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the valves carry rotatable operating handles coaxial with their closure members 2.
