Abstract
334,339. Waddington Tamperproof Taximeters, Ltd., and Clause, F. H. July 25, 1929. Right to Patent relinqitished. Taximeters ; transmitting details.-An arrangement for preventing loss of drive to the taximeter in changing over from time to distance drive and vice versa comprises a disc, divided into two portions 2, 3 by a flange 4, fixed to the taximeter shaft 1 which loosely carries gear wheels 5, 6 of the time and distance drive respectively which have fixed to them driving members 7, 8 formed with inclined driving surface 9 which together with the driven disc portions 2, 3 form wedge-shaped gaps in which are located rollers 10 urged towards the narrow ends of the gaps by springs 11. A modification is described in which the gear wheels 5 and 6 and their driving members are mounted on separate shafts. The rollers may be replaced by balls or wedges and these members may be knurled or otherwise roughened. The surfaces of the driving and driven members may be smooth or may be roughened with, for example, teeth or serrations, and the members may be reversed so that the driving members are inside and the driven members outside. The Provisional Specification states that the toothed or serrated surfaces on thedriving and driven members may alone form the wedged-shaped gaps.
