Abstract

333,857. Williams, H. R. Jan. 12, 1929, [Convention date]. Catamenial appliances.-Relates to folding over the end flap of the cotton gauze or like coverings of catamenial bandages. The bandages, formed by cutting, by a stationary knife 5 and a rotating knife 6, a continuous cotton gauze covering 3 which has its edges folded over pads 4, are passed onto a conveyer 7 and pass beneath a nozzle 15 connected to a vacuum pump. The suction draws the end flap into the nozzle and further movement of the bandage withdraws the flap folded over the end of the bandage. The bandage passes beneath an ironing shoe 18, and then beneath a pivoted plate 21 and between vertical belts 19 spaced apart sufficiently to support the bandage and to discharge it onto a shoot 20, the unfolded end flap 17 being pressed down by the plate 21. The bandage is then carried in the opposite direction by a conveyer 22 beneath a second suction nozzle 25 and ironing shoe 26 which folds the other flap.
