Abstract

1,212,721. Reconstituted tobacco. LOEW'S THEATRES Inc. 11 June, 1968 [12 June, 1967], No. 27670/68. Heading A2C. [Also in Divisions B1, B2 and F4] That part of the method of producing tobacco sheets from tobacco fragments including stem material and fines described in Specification 956,427, wherein a layer of slurry and fines is applied to a carrier surface and dried to form a sheet thereon, is modified by lifting the sheet from the carrier surface while it is only partly dried to break any bond between it and the surface, replacing the sheet on the surface for further drying, and collecting substantially all of the liquid drawn from the sheet for recycling back through the process. After passing through a first stage dryer 42 the sheet L is lifted off a wire conveyer band 40 by suction applied through a wire conveyer band 46 and is subsequently returned to the conveyer 40 by suction applied at 50. The sheet L then passes through two further dryers 52, 54 for final drying. The dryers 42, 52, 54 may comprise infra-red heaters or may be of the type in which air is circulated. A pump 80 returns drawn off liquid to a mixing tank (11) used in an earlier stage in the process. The Specification also discloses an alternative device, to that used in Specification 956,427, for disintegrating the tobacco stem material (see Division B1).
