Frequency, changing; arc and spark-gap apparatus, vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangements of.-In means for obtaining, under the control of primary oscillations, secondary oscillations of lower frequency by superimposing a unidirectional voltage upon the primary voltage so that a condenser 3 is caused to discharge periodically through a circuit comprising a glow discharge lamp 2 as described in Specification 296,829, the battery used in the former case is dispensed with, the required D.C. component being obtained from the A.C. supply source 7, 8 by inserting a rectifier 6 in the charging circuit of the condenser. This circuit includes the usual resistance 5; an impedance 9 is provided in the discharge circuit. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 256,606.
