Vapour and vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangement of; phase, changing; converting pulsating currents into steady continuous currents.-In a method of supplying telephone installations with steady continuous current from an alternating current source, the number of phases is increased by phase multiplying transformers, and the resulting current is rectified by an arrangement of incandescent-cathode gas-filled valves. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which a four-anode valve 12 is associated with phasemultiplying transformers 5, 6 fed from a threephase supply 1, 2, 3. Fig. 2 shows an alternative arrangement in which two three-anode valves 24, 25 are associated with a threeto six-phase transformer 20, 22. The rectified current is supplied through a smoothing circuit 29 - - 32 directly to the telephone network without the use of a battery.
