Sept. 24, 1931, No. 26687. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1930. [Class 38 (ii).] In a rectifier system for polyphase A.C. in which the rectifier elements are arranged in pairs for full-wave rectification, the number of phases is increased by phase - multiplying transformers in order that ripple in the rectified current may be of increased frequency and may be removed by a relatively small smoothing circuit. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement in which the D.C. circuit 10 is fed from a threephase supply 11 through a three to twelve phase transformer 18 and six pairs of rectifiers connected for full wave rectification. Fig. 2 shows an alternative arrangement in which a pair of three to six phase transformers 27, 28 with a 30‹ phase displacement between the two sets of secondaries are employed. In this arrangement, the two groups of rectifiers fed by the different secondaries are interconnected through an interphase reactor 33 to produce overlap of anode currents. Modified transformer systems in which the secondaries are delta-connected are also described, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
