Abstract
332,890. Marks, Sir G. C., (Lusifer Products Co.). Jan. 21, 1929. Casting processes.-Steel is purified, subsequent to the main finishing reactions, by adding to the molten mass in the ingot mould, and mixing therewith, preferably after removal of the main finishing slag but before solidification, less that one per cent of finely divided slag-forming materials which consist mainly of alumina. The latter may be mixed with silica either in the free or combined state and/or ferric oxide. In an example, the materials consist of 80 parts of alumina, 4 parts of silica and 16 parts of ferric oxide. Specification 1437/93, [Class 72, Iron &c.], is referred to.
