Abstract

331,978. Gill, A. S., and Cohen Sons &. Co., Ltd., G. May 7, 1929. Ball-and-socket joints.-The adjacent ends of two pipes are provided with enlarged male and female partly spherical portions a, b, as shown in Fig. 1, which are drawn together and connected by a two-part recessed housing d preferably of the kind described in Specification 319,582. One wall of the housing recess engages the male member a, while the other wall contacts with the conical rear surface of a forwardly extending flange b<1> on the female member b. Fluidtightness is secured by a packing ring c which is compressed by the housing between the conical front surface of the flange b<1> and the outer surface of the male member. In a modification, Fig. 3, the housing consists of two loose flanges d<7>, d<8> drawn together by longitudinal bolts, the opposed faces of the flanges being inclined as shown.
