Abstract
330,748. Wilson, J. May 27, 1929. Valves actuated indirectly.-A drinking bowl 1 supported in bearings 2 by journals 3 is provided with rearward extension 3 surrounding an enlargement 5<a> at the bottom of a water supply pipe 5. A valve 6 held closed by a spring 7 and the water pressure is fitted in the enlarged end of the pipe and is adapted to be engaged by the end of a set-screw 9 fitted in the rear of the bowl or by the bowl itself. A projection 10 limits the upward movement of the front of the bowl. When an animal puts its head into the bowl for a drink it depresses the bowl, forcing up the valve spindle 8 and letting water flow into the bowl. When the animal's head is raised the spring 7 forces down the valve spindle and raises the front of the bowl to its normal position. The upper part 6<a> of the valve may co-operate with an extension 5<b> on the valve pipe to operate as a valve when the bowl is depressed too far.
