Abstract

217,703. Brown, A. G. April 23, 1923. Loose ball valves; actuating- mechanism.-A nozzle more particularly for use with hose is providad with a valve 8 adapted to be maintained in an inoperative position against the action of gravity and normal movement but adapted to be jerked from this position so as to be caught in the stream of liquid and moved to and maintained in a position to arrest the flow of liquid. The nozzle is provided with an enlarged part 2 within which is mounted a cage 5 closed at its lower end and containing a ball valve 8. Liquid passes to the outlet through openings 11 and normally holds the ball in the position shown against the action of gravity &c. The forward end of the cage is closed by a centrally perforated plug 7 provided with a seating against which the ball may be jerked when it will be held bv the pressure of water. A centrally mounted rod is provided by which the ball may be unseated.
