Valves actuated indirectly.-The supply valve g of a water trough is normally maintained closed by the weight of the bowl e which is mounted on pivots d in slots at the end of brackets b. The stem of the movable part of the valve passes through a key-hole shaped slot h in a lug h<1> projecting from the back of the bowl and is provided with adjustable nuts f<3> on each side of the lug. A plate i is pivoted in depending bearing brackets c<1> in the trough and is adapted to be depressed by the nose of the animal seeking water. The further end of the plate is formed into curved tongues i<4> that engage under the lug h<1> and, when the plate is depressed, lift the lug h<1> and the movable part of the valve.
