Abstract

329,338. Baker, F. W. Dec 13, 1928. Hubs; detachable wheels; spokes, securing and adjusting.-In a wheel comprising a two-part hub each carrying a set of wire spokes, a resilient mounting is fitted between the hub-part. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spokes 3 on the outer hub-part 13 are of the hairpin type described in Specification 311,876, and are tensioned by wedges 47 on a sleeve 48 which is adjusted by eccentrics 49. The inner hub-part 43 is bolted to the brake-drum 7, rubber &c. sleeves 44 being fitted around the bolts 6. A rubber ring 42 is fitted between the adjacent parts of the hub-elements. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the spokes 3 are carried by a cap 20 which is adjusted axially of the hub-part 13 by means of a single bolt 24. In the further modification shown in Fig. 3, a resilient metal ring 56 is fitted between the hub-parts 13, 51. In this form, the wedgering 58 by which the outer set of spokes is tensioned is adjusted by thrust-bolts 60 bearing, through balls 61, against lugs 62 on the hubpart 13.
