4126. Withers, J. S., [Fahrney Wheel Corporation]. Feb. 17. Spring wheels with sectional outer guided members. - Wheels, of the kind in which tubular spokes such as 5, Fig. 1, are fitted with telescoping s p r i n gpressed stems 21 carrying a continuous or sectional elastic tyre 27, are characterized by arranging similar intermediate spring elements with the tubes 8 lodged between the spokes 5, or between spokes and intermediate members, Fig. 6. The tubes 5 have segmental blocks 4 abutting together around the axle-box. The tubes 8 have blocks 30, Fig. 2, and are recessed in a concave manner to fit between the tubes 5 and be supported laterally. The rims 38 of the hub plates 2 are shaped inwardly to fit all the tubes. Each stem 21 is guided through a bearing 12 and is fixed to an enclosed tubular extension 18 in which the spring lies. All the tubes have screwed sleeves with stuffing-boxes 15, which are embraced by a two-part ring 35 with half-round parts 36. The tubular members 8 are adjusted by nuts 17 on the sleeve before the ring 35 is fixed.
