Abstract

Spring wheels.-The wheel is composed of an outer metal tyre a mounted on a resilient seating g carried by an auxiliary tyre c, between which and the felloe d of the wheel is interposed a cushion m of rubber &c. The tyre a is flanged to fit over the auxiliary tyre c, which is guided upon the felloe by rings p. The resilient seating g is composed of a rubber band, bent into circular section, and springs enclosed in the tubular telescoping stems of arched plates t. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the band is formed with beaded edges to engage in grooves in the auxiliary tyre. The cushion m is formed of a band or bands of rubber &c. The hub of the wheel is constructed in a manner similar to that described in Specifications No. 11,483, A.D. 1901, and No. 5532, A.D. 1903 ; the inner hub w is secured to the axle and the outer hub x carries the spokes, and each is formed with an annular groove to receive bearing- balls. In a modification, the bearing-balls are interposed between the felloe and the auxiliary tyre, and the cushion m between the two parts of the hub.
