Abstract
329,032. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Feb. 15, 1929. Drying in inert gases.-Solid substances containing water in the form of hydrate, as water of crystallization, or as adherent water or adsorbed water in the pores of hydrogels, &c. is removed by treating the substances with gaseous ammonia at ordinary, reduced or slightly increased temperatures. Crystalline substances such as magnesium sulphate, sodium carbonate, sodium or potassium sulphate may be treated, and in the case of substances such as chlorides of calcium, iron, zinc or nickel which form addition compounds with ammonia, these compounds are subsequently decomposed by heating. Specification 20199/08, [Class 1, Acids, alkalies, &c.], is referred to.
