Abstract
172,074. Naef, E. E. Aug. 23, 1920. Sulphur: carbon. - Sulphuretted hydrogen either alone, or mixed with other gases and with or without the presence of ammonia, is partially oxidized by means of highly active carbon, so as to obtain sulphur. Air or oxygen is supplied when necessary. Ammonium sulphide may be similarly treated in aqueous solution. The deposited sulphur is removed from the carbon by solvents. Such carbons as those, known under the registered Trade Marks " Eponite " or " Norit " may be used. Suitable carbon for use in the process can also be obtained by carbonization at low temperatures of materials such as wood, cocoa-nut and other shells, or finely divided anthracite, activated by air or steam at low temperature. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1410/79, 5070/83, 146,141, 146,145, and 153,297.
