Abstract

Web-feeding arrangements.-Web rolls or a zig-zag web are supported by a carriage running on a track detachably connected to a typewriter or like machine by means of a clamp which is adjustable for machines of different sizes, the carriage being coupled to the platen carriage by means permitting shift movement of the latter. In the attachment shown in Figs. 2 and 3 a carriage P supporting web rolls or a basket B for a zig-zag web runs on a track T connected to an adjustable clamp A engaging the framework M of a typewriter. The carriage P is coupled to the platen carriage C by means of a slotted arm 49 which is pivoted on an arm 46 on the carriage P and engages a pin 55 on the platen carriage, the arms being connected by a spring 51 and forward movement of the arm 49 being prevented by a stop. The arm 49 permits shift of the platen carriage and the spring absorbs shock when the platen carriage is arrested for tabulating. The clamp consists of a bar 10 provided with sliding clamps 11, 12 for engaging the rear corners 13 of the typewriter, the clamp 12 being secured by a screw 14 and the clamp 11 being tightened by a screw 18. The track consists of rails 26 secured to yokes 25 mounted on arms 20 which 'are provided with feet 24 and have pivots 22 engaging lugs 21 on the bar 10. Screws 23 engaging the pivots lock the arms in adjusted position. The carriage P comprises a frame 29 provided with two pairs of plain and flanged rollers 33, 34 running on the rails, and a pair of rollers 36 for preventing tilting. Standards 37 on the carriage are formed with slots 41 for receiving the spindles of the web rolls, pivoted keepers 43 retaining the spindles. The basket B for holding a zig-zag web rests in an inclined position on a cross-bar 30 of the carriage and is secured by screws 65 passing through the bottom slots 41. The basket is formed with a low outwardly-flared front 63. A guide-frame F for the web is pivoted on a rod 38 connecting the standards 37 and can be turned down when out of use. Specification 328,542 is referred to. Web-cutting arrangements .-A blade for cutting the webs is secured to arms 59, Fig. 3, which are secured by screws 62 to a rod 61 on the platen carriage C.
