328,145. Rose, A. G., and Rose Bros. (Gainsborough), Ltd. May 29, 1929. Packeting by wrapping-up.-A machine, for wrapping confections comprising a piece of toffee &c. provided with a stem or handle, comprises a conveyer wheel 10, Figs. 1 and 5, and a wrapping wheel 11. The confections 13 are placed in recesses 12 in the conveyer wheel with the stems 14 resting in notches 15 in a rim 16 spaced from the recesses, a guide plate 17 retaining them in position. A plunger 21 transfers the confection past spring pressed flaps 20 into a pocket 25 in the wrapping wheel 11, carrying with it a wrapper 24 cut from a web 23, and folding it into the U-shaped formation shown in Fig. 1. The pockets 25 are formed by fixed jaws 26 and spring pressed movable jaws 27, the latter being adapted to be opened at the moment of reception. The jaws are formed with recesses 29 or with grooves to facilitate holding the edges of the confection. During the intermittent travel of the wrapping wheel, the wrapper is formed by any suitable mechanism with an open-ended tube, the stems being held in position by a groove 32. At a point diametrically opposite the plunger 21, the ends of the tube are engaged by twisting jaws 33, 33, 34, 34, Fig. 6. The jaws 34 are grooved at 42 so as to encircle freely the stems 14. The jaws are rotated and are moved inwardly towards the pockets to form the wrapped product shown in Fig. 8. Certain of the mechanism may be as described in Specification 150,076. According to the Provisional Specification, mechanism such as is described in Specification 293,907 may be used to facilitate the transfer of the confection and wrapper into the wrapping wheel.
