326,831. Harris, R. A., and Baker Perkins, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1928. Packeting by wrapping-up. - Machines, for wrapping caramels and the like, which may be of the type in which a rotary pocket wheel is operated in conjunction with a synchronized plunger for feeding an article and wrapper into the pockets, or of the type described in Specification 215,902, are provided with a displaceable suction element for aiding in positioning the wrappers within the pockets. Members 1, carried on levers 2 pivoted at 3 and connected to a vacuum pump 8, are arranged so as to engage a wrapper r which has been severed from a strip by knives s, and to be oscillated by a cam 5 to draw the wrapper back into a pocket b on a wheel a, while a plunger m<1> pushes a caramel l in the same direction. When the caramel and wrapper contact with a stop 10, Fig. 2, the suction members are disengaged from the wrapper, the sides d, c of the pocket close, the folding' of the article is proceeded with during the rotation of the wheel a by members h, g, and the ends may be twisted by known mechanism. A counting device comprising a wheel 11 with spokes 11<a> is mounted so that the latter are engaged by the projecting ends of the wrappers, preferably before the twisting operation has taken place.
