Sheet-separators.»In a wrapping-machine, in which two wrappers are applied, the material for the inner wrapper is drawn from a roll 25, over guide rollers 26, 27 and between a driving roller 29 and an idler 30. A knife 35 is actuated by an arm 37 to sever a length of wrapper, the forward end of which is seized by grippers 66 on the wheel 9. The arm 37 is on a shaft carrying a double armed lever 38, one end of which is attached to a spring 42, and the other carries a roller 39 engaging a cam 40 notched at 41. When the roller falls into the notch, the paper is severed without checking the feed. The outer wrappers are fed from a magazine 43 by a rotating suction device 55 connected to a pump by a duct 56 in the shaft 54 leading to a duct 57. Valves 58 are spring- held in their settings, and are opened at the approximate moments by a projection 59 acting on the stems. The suction apertures 60 are then in connection with the pump, and seize the lowermost wrapper in the magazine and carry it to position c, where it is seized, with the inner wrapper, by the grippers 66. The magazine 43 is reciprocated on a guide 45 by an arm 48 and link 50, so that at the moment of detachment of a wrapper, it is moving in the same direction as the suction device and at a higher velocity.
