Abstract

353,640. Packeting-machines. PRIOR, A. C. and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. June 19, 1930, No. 18732. [Class 94 (i).] In a funnel or mouthpiece, for assisting the insertion of articles or batches of articles with packets and comprising a series of blades arranged to be expanded into the mouth of the packet prior to the passage of an article, one of the blades is made of two portions to permit the passage of a pusher piece carried on a continuous conveyer through the mouthpiece. As shown, the blades 9, 10, 11 are pivotally mounted on a horizontally reciprocable frame 15, and normally held in the position shown by the action of springs 22 on campieces 20 carried on the blades. In use, an article or batch 4 of cigarettes is advanced by a pusher 6 on a conveyer 7, and, at about the same time that the leading end of the batch reaches the entrance of the mouth-piece, a cam-actuated arm moves the frame 15 towards a fixed frame 12, on the reverse side of which a packet is positioned between guides 3. Projections 21 on the frame 12 engage the campieces 20 and turn the blades so that they form a rectangular channel through an aperture in the frame 12 and leading into the packet. The frame 15, the lower blades 11, and the frame 12 are gapped to enable the pusher 6 to pass through and carry the filled packet away.
