Packeting by wrapping-up.- Relates to apparatus for wrapping small articles such as cigarettes in paper, tinfoil or both, and used to co-operate with cigarette-packing machines of the kind described in Specification 13957/15 or with machines in which bunches of cigarettes are intermittently fed. A strip 8, Fig. 3, of wrapping-material is fed by continuously-rotating feed-rollers 6, 7 through guides 27 into a shoot 28 and is severed below the guides 27 by a knife 31, Fig. 4, without the feed being interrupted. The knife is pivoted on a spindle 32 on an arm 34 on a continuously-rotating spindle 23. A stop 38 contacts with a portion 39 of the knife and retards it against the action of a spring (not shown) so that when the portion 39 arrives at position B and slips past the stop 38, it makes a rapid stroke forwards until arrested by a stop 40 and severs the paper 8 without affecting the continuous feed. The severed 'material is then occupying the shoot 28 and a slot 29 below the path of the cigarettes 1 on the conveyer 2. The cigarettes force the strip into a casing 30 with side folders 41, 42 so that an open ended packet as shown in Fig. 9 is produced. According to the Provisional Specification, the sides may be gummed and an electrically-warmed heating- chamber may co-operate with the side folders to dry the folds.
