730,340. Cigarette-making machines. POLICANSKY, H. March 17, 1954 [April 13, 1953] No. 10059/53. Class 130. In tipping mechanism for filter-tip cigarette - assembling machines of the kind comprising strip gumming, cutting and wrapping mechanisms wherein assemblies comprising two lengths of cigarette rod and a centrallydisposed double filter-tip plug are arranged end-toend and bonded together by wrapping a severed gummed length of a thin strip of material, such as cork; around the filter plug and the adjacent cigarette rod ends, there. is provided a rotary support, for example a roller 3, having hollow grooves 6 arranged parallel to the direction of movement of the strip, and comb means 7 embodying fingers 9 co-operating with the grooves 6 so that the extremities of the fingers lie beneath the advancing edge of the strip. The roller 3 is transversely slotted at 4 to receive knife holding members that are traversed by spring means to sever the strip, the latter being held on to the roller 3 by suction acting through the orifices 5. Any other form of severing mechanism may be used. The fingers 9 enter the grooves 6 nearly tangentially of the roller surface and the comb 7 is used in conjunction with a feed roller 10 which directs the severed portions of the strip to the tipping mechanism.
