Packeting by wrapping-up.-In a machine for wrapping sweets to form packets with twisted ends, two sweets are enclosed in a common wrapper which is twisted between the sweets and then at each end, so that, on severance between the sweets, two packets are produced. The sweets 8, Fig. 2, are fed from an endless band 9 by a pusher 12 on to slides 14 which carry them between an upper finger 15 and lower fingers 18, a wrapper 1 having been previously placed in such a position as to overlie both sweets as shown in Fig. 15. The sweets and wrapper are carried upwards by the fingers 15, 18 so that folders 20, 22, Fig. 17, fold down the sides, and a slide 21 folds down one underside, the fingers 18 having been retracted. The slide then forwards the wrapper and articles to the left, the folder 20 forming the wrapper into a complete tube. Grippers 31, 31<1>, Figs. 11 and 23, seize the wrapper at each end, and it is held in the centre by jaws 24<1>, 25<1> carrying a knife 26 which severs it in the middle. A pawl 39 rotates the grippers 31, 31', and the wrapper is twisted as shown in Fig. 24, each article being then held by a tongue 57 against further rotation, while the grippers complete the twisting as shown in Fig. 25. The grippers are held by a spring 52 so that during each twisting operation they approach the wrapper to prevent breaking.
