Gases, treating with liquids.-Gas is washed by passage through a casing a containing a concentric rotatable drum h divided into two or more concentric chambers by one or more internal drums j rotating with it; the gas passes through opposite ends alternately of the drums so that it flows successively from the outer to the inner chambers, whence it is withdrawn through a hollow boss, water flowing in the opposite direction. Gas enters at c and passes through openings m, n, o in the internal drums, while water is introduced by a pipe in the hollow boss p and is withdrawn at d. The upper part of the casing a is built of readily removable segmental sections. The gas may be bubbled through the liquid on entering for the separation of tar &c. The outer casing a and drum h carry brushes l, and the inner drums carry brushes l, wood balls, or canvas screens.
