Spindle-driving apparatus. - In spinning, twisting, or like frames, particularly those for jute, hemp, flax, and like yarns, wherein each spindle is driven through a positive clutch and a friction coupling without the use of springs and so that the disengagement of the positive clutch leaves the spindle frictionally driven whereby it may be stopped by hand, the friction coupling comprises a. cone G on the driving-pinion H and a cup F keyed to the spindle and forming an oil well. An annular oil channel F<1> is formed in the upper edge of the cup which is approximately at the same height as the oil level 0 in the casing B. The friction surfaces of the coupling preferably form an angle of 7‹ with the axis. The positive clutch comprises dog elements H<1>, M<1>.
