Abstract
336,573. Jeapes, W. C. July 12, 1929. Shaft couplings.-In synchronously driving a kinematograph and gramophone from a single prime-mover, power is transmitted from the kinematograph to the gramophone through a resilient coupling. The spindle 11 of the kinematograph 10 is driven from the prime-mover through a pulley 12 and is connected to the gramophone turntable spindle 20 by flexible shafts 14, 18 and worm gearing contained in a box 45. The spindle 20, which is mounted in bearings in a box 19, carries at its lower end a four-armed spider 25. A bearing 27 in the lower wall 26 of the box 19 supports a stub-shaft 28 coupled to the flexible shaft 18 and carrying at its upper end a like spider 29, connected by coil springs 34, 37, to the other spider 25. The spindle 20 drives a governor 43 which is set so as to prevent the gramophone over-running the kinematograph. If the kinematograph tends to overrun the gramophone, the coupling springs are put into tension and bring the gramophone into step with the kinematograph, while ensuring smooth running.
