Abstract
470,466. Gearing for conveying rotary motion. WIDGLEY, A. H. Feb. 13, 1936, No. 4343. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A drive for obtaining constancy of speed and described particularly with reference to the driving of the drum b of a sound camera, comprises a fluid-friction drive for the drum of slightly lower speed than the speed of the film a, loops being provided in the film by means of jockey pulleys i, h before and after the sounddrum. The film is driven to and drawn from the sound-drum by the same sprocket-wheel f, spring rollers g being fitted to retain the film on the sprocket. The sprocket-wheel shaft is driven by a shaft which drives also a heavy casing e, Fig. 2, free on the shaft c of the sound-drum b. The shaft c carries a heavy flywheel d enclosed in the casing e and driven therefrom by fluid-friction. The drum b is a little less in diameter than the sprocket f so that the film is caused to drive the drum at a speed slightly in excess of that imparted to the drum by the drive of the casing e. Specification 316,320, [Class 40 (ii)], is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the diameter of the drum may also be equal to or greater than the diameter of the sprocket.
