Abstract
368,844. Driving sound-films. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, and ROUND, H. J., Westfield, Muswell Hill, both in London. Dec. 12, 1930, No. 37573. [Class 40 (ii).] Apparatus for recording sound upon a film comprises in combination a motor M, a relatively high speed shaft T driven thereby through a universal joint C\ a flywheel F<1> on this shaft, separate speed-reduction mechanisms G<1>, G<2> driven by the shaft, a low speed shaft K<2> which is driven from the mechanism G<1>, and which itself drives through an elastic coupling C<2> the main or recording sprocket S<2> (the latter being under the control of a second flywheel F2, arranged as shown), and a second low-speed shaft K<1> which is driven from the mechanism G<2> and which drives subsidiary devices such as a feed sprocket S<1> and " take-up" apparatus (not shown). A second elastic coupling C<3> may also be provided as shown. By this means, vibrations and irregularities in the working of the take-up apparatus &c. do not affect the uniform running of the main sprocket S<2>, where recording is effected on the film as it is in contact with the sprocket.
