Abstract
842,053. Kinematograph apparatus. EDHOUSE, R. S. Feb. 18,1959 (Feb. 19, 1958], No. 5391/58. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XXXVIII] Means for reproducing or recording kinematograph pictures comprises a disc 1 having successive picture areas 3 arranged spirally thereon and having drive engaging means adjacent each picture area adapted to engage drive means to cause each said picture area to pass at constant speed a viewing area forming part of the apparatus by. engagement of the drive with the driving means. A sound track, which may be optical, magnetic or a groove for a vibratory stylus, may be arranged on the outer edge of the disc or on the spiral ledge 3a between the convolutions of the pictures. In the embodiment described with reference to Fig. 6, a geared down resilient-tyred pulley 8 engages the spiral ledge 3a of the disc 1 while at the same time the spacing between the axis 7 of the disc 1 and the pulley 8 is progressively varied. A suitably geared rotating prism or mirror drum 14, Fig. 4, produces successive separate still pictures to produce cine pictures in wellknown manner. Fig. 8 illustrates a method in which the disc 1 is driven by forked prongs 44 on a hollow shaft 38, and a viewing prism 14 is rotated at the desired speed by appropriate gearing 39, 40. The sound track may be stereophonic, and the pictures arranged in stereoscopic pairs.
