Abstract

324,509. Wingfield, B. T. Jan. 15, 1929. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves. -An automatic high-pressure surplus and low-pressure limiting valve is actuated by fluid pressure under the control of a relav valve itself controlled by three control valves so that the main valve is opened when the high pressure exceeds a certain maximum, if the low pressure is below a certain maximum and is also opened if the low pressure falls below a predetermined minimum. The balanced main valve 1 is actuated, through a cord 3 and lever 2, by a piston 5 working in a cylinder 6 connected by pipes 7, 8 to a relay valve 9. The relay valve comprises a piston valve member 11 actuated against the action of a spring by two diaphragms 13. 14, the diaphragm 13 being secured to the valve spindle 12, while the diaphragm 14 bears against an extension 12<1> of the valve spindle. The relay valve is controlled by three control valves of the type described in Specification 291,923, each provided with a restricted fluid inlet and a leak-off port controlled by a valve member actuated by an elastic capsule, the capsules of the valves 15 and 18 being connected to the low-pressure side of the main valve while that of the valve 17 is coupled to the highpressure side. The valve 15 is connected to the space between the diaphragms and opens with fall of pressure. The valves 17, 18 are connected to the space above the diaphragm 14, and while the valve 18 opens with fall of pressure, 17 closes with fall of pressure.
