Abstract

323,374. Newman, Hender, & Co., Ltd., and Newman, C. P. Jan. 9, 1929. Closure members.-In a stop valve for use in high pressure superheated steam systems, the closure member is formed bv a reversible nickel alloy ring n which is bevelled on its outer edges, one bevelled face coacting with the seating f whilst the other bears against a correspondingly bevelled recess formed in an intermediate carrier member p which is rotatably secured to the end of the operating spindle j by a screwed ring o. The ring n is secured to the loose head p by a threaded plug q, a clearance x being provided between the top of the ring and the intermediate member to ensure a steam-tight joint between the contacting bevelled faces. In a modified construction, the screwed portion of the spindle may be formed at the upper end, the packing gland s then being fitted below.
