Coking processes.-A coke oven is charged with coking coal so that a space is left at the discharge end which is filled with non-coking coals or briquettes which retain their shape when coked, but which do not form self-supporting cakes. The wedge shaped mass of coke from the non-coking fuel is discharged when the oven door is opened, and can be removed prior to the expulsion from the oven by the ram of the normal mass of coke.
