Abstract

320,819. Leonard, N. Dec. 31, 1928. Addition to 248,699, [Class 144 (i), Wheels for vehicles]. Flywheels.-In a wheel of the kind described in the parent Specification, excess of metal at the spoke-junctions is now avoided by forming some or all of the spoke-ends as spaced cheeks. Figs. 4 and 6 show a locomotive driving-wheel in which the spokes 5<1>, 5<2> are connected to the rim 4, and the spokes 5<2> to the hub 1, by spaced cheeks 33<1>, 33<2>. The length of the solid portion of the spoke may be reduced so as ultimately to produce a wheel such as shown in Figs. 12 and 13 in which the spokes are constituted by the cheeks 33', 33<2> connected by cross-braces 35. In wheels of small diameter the spokes may all lead directly into the hub. The invention is stated to be applicable also to fly wheels.
