Abstract

334,941. Pugh, J. V. June 13. 1929. Hand-wheels.-In tangent-spoke wheels, such as vehicle wheels, steering-wheels, and pulleys, in which the wire spokes have headed outer ends and threaded inner ends to engage aligned holes in rim and hub elements respectively, the rim is formed of thin metal with cupped holes to take the spoke-heads, the inner ends of the spokes being screwed directly into the hub or into solid ring members concentric with the axle. The initial tensioning of the spokes may be effected by the screwing-up operation, and the final tensioning by relative axial displacement of the rim and hub elements as described in Specification 320,408, [Class 144, (i), Wheels for vehicles], or of separate ring members carrying the inner ends of the spokes. Fig. 7 shows a steering-wheel in which a channel-section rim b is connected to a hub c, of cylindrical or rectangular form, by two sets of spokes a, ax. The hub may be of relatively small dimensions so as to provide resiliency in the wheel. Specification 304,624, [Class 144 (i), Wheels for vehicles], is referred to.
