Abstract
319,650. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Sept. 25, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - A lightsensitive electrode has a layer consisting of a chemical compound interposed between the light-sensitive material, such as caesium or other alkali metal, and a substratum which may be the support. The compound is preferably of a metal which is not present in the substratum, and may consist of a halide, such as calcium fluoride, or an oxide such as magnesia, or it may be obtained by etching a substratum of glass; the compound should absorb caesium &c. better than does the material of the substratum. It may be applied by spraying, painting, or by volatilization from an anode 6, which is coated with the compound and heated by passage of current. The anode may be in the shape of a nearly closed ring. Caesium &c. is admitted by volatilization through a side tube 9. The intermediate layer may be chosen so as to control the sensitiveness of the cell to light of different colour; for example caesium applied to calcium fluoride appears blue, but when applied to sodium bromide it appears green. Specifications 303,476, 306,996, 309,224 and 323,718 are referred to.
