Abstract

318,671. Parsons, Sir C. A., and Rosen, J. June 8, 1928. Armatures and field magnets, cooling.-A tubular baffle or guide is formed with ducts or perforations and is disposed coaxially in the air gap to direct air to parts of the machine. The invention is applicable to the cooling system described in Specification 301,771, and in one form comprises a tape T of presspahn or of the material known under the registered Trade Mark " Bakelite " made in sections. Longitudinal perforations T<1> and cross ducts T<2> registering with air passages N<1> in the stator are provided. A seriesparallel arrangement of the cross ducts, core passages and co-operating stator passages L<1>, L<2>, L<3> may be used by forming the tube with imperforate annuli T<3> which are positioned opposite the core sections R<1>, R<2>. The cross ducts may be extended axially or holes may be provided out of alignment with the ducts to expose the rotor G to cooling air. In a modification, longitudinal grooves conforming in breadth with the configuration of the core teeth may be provided.
