Phosphoric acid.-In preparing phosphoric acid by treating phosphorite or like material containing calcium phosphate with sulphuric acid, the material is treated with an excess of concentrated sulphuric acid, the gypsum formed is removed, and the mixture of sulphuric and phosphoric acid is used repeatedly for the treatment of fresh material with intermediate separation of gypsum, until the sulphuric acid is used up.
