Abstract

In solubilizing natural phosphates by nitric acid, the phosphate is introduced into a liquid containing the required amount of nitric acid and the mixture thoroughly stirred, the emulsion-like suspension thus formed being transferred to a centrifuge bowl having a perforated cylindrical surface for dispersal of froth. The nitric acid used may be diluted with a solution resulting from the same treatment applied, in the course of a previous reaction, to identical materials. The solution resulting from this treatment may be treated in known manner, e.g. with ammonia to obtain fertilizers, or a portion of the calcium nitrate may be separated by cooling and the remainder of the solution be neutralized with ammonia or lime.
