Abstract

To minimize the caking tendency of a mechanical mixture of two or more coarsely crystalline water-soluble fertilizing salts it is treated with a spray of water or of an aqueous solution of one or more of the constituents and simultaneously agitated and heated. The aqueous solution may be one of all the soluble constituents of the mixture in the proportions in which they are present in the mixture. The treatment may be carried out in a drum with paddle stirrers, the spray of water or solution being injected into the body of the material and the vessel being heated externally or by passing a current of hot air through the material. Treatment of a mixture containing potassium chloride, ammonium sulphate and a compound salt of ammonium sulphate and mono-ammonium phosphate is described by way of example.
