The caking of fertilizers containing a proportion of ammonium nitrate, e.g. a mixture of ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate is prevented by the incorporation of a hygroscopic salt (other than ammonium nitrate), e.g. calcium nitrate, calcium chloride or iron nitrate in the proportion of 10-30 per cent of the initial mixture. Other fertilizing salts, e.g. potassium and phosphorus containing materials may also be added. Specification 316,664, [Class 111, Sewage &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that a quantity of hygroscopic salt preferably in the proportion of 10-30 per cent of the mixture is used.
