Abstract

Cam-actuated pumps; double-acting bucket pumps.-A pump for liquids comprises a rotating shaft 1 provided with a chamber 2 through which the liquid enters and passes through ports 3 into the interior of a rotating casing 5 which is connected to the shaft by radial arms 11 and keys 4 slidably engaging the slots 3. The arms 11 carry rollers 10 running in a cam slot 17 in the fixed casing 6, so that the rotor 5 is reciprocated during its rotation. The rotor has ports 20 in its ends controlled by valve 22a, 22<b> connected by rods 19, so that when the ports in one end are open those in the other end are closed. During reciprocation of the rotor in one direction, liquid passes from its interior through the open ports 20 into the chamber 21<a> or 21<b>, and during the return movement these ports are closed by the valve 22a or 22<b> and the liquid is forced past an annular slide valve 24<a> or 24b into the delivery conduit 18. The valves 24a, 24b are opened and closed by contact with the rotor during its reciprocations. Owing to the rotation of the liquid with the rotor, its pressure is increased by centrifugal force.
