Abstract

313,771. Kaberhorn, W. F. June 29, 1928. Proofing.-A dilute aqueous emulsion or suspension of aluminium hydroxide, which is preferably freshly precipitated, is used as the proofing agent. The quantity of hydroxide used, which is varied according to the type of apparatus used for carrying out the process, is between 1 and 5 per cent of the dry weight of the goods being treated and the weight of water used is from twenty to thirty times the weight of the goods. The goods are steeped in the suspension for about twenty minutes at 70‹ C. The process is especially applicable to silk and woollen goods.
