Abstract

The wetting and dispersing properties of zinc sulphide-containing pigments, such as lithopone, are improved by coating the particles thereof with a fatty acid having not more than 14 carbon atoms, and which is not readily soluble in water. A suitable fatty acid is lauric acid, and from 0,35--1 per cent of the weight of the pigment is a suitable amount to use. The lauric acid, in liquid form, may be sprayed on to the pigment during the dry disintegration of the latter, or an aqueous emulsion of lauric acid may be added during the wet milling of the pigment. Specification 406,513 is referred to.
