Abstract

560,042. Pitch. WILKINS, E. T., and SAYLES, C. P. Nov. 19, 1942, No. 16367. [Class 55 (ii)] To prevent the suspension of fine pitch dust in the atmosphere, pitch is treated with a small proportion of oil, grease, wax, gum, resin, or a hydrophilic colloid, for example 05 per cent by weight of oil. Starch or metallic-alginates are examples of a suitable hydrophilic colloid, and may be used in the form of a solution or dispersion in water with about . 1 per cent of a wetting agent such as a sodium alkyl sulphate. The treating agent may be added to the pitch before it enters the grinding mill, or sprayed on to the ground pitch after grinding.
